MIND

Museum of mental illness & mental well-being. 

MIND has exhibitions in a patient building at the former mental hospital in Middelfart. The mental hospital opened in 1888 and closed as a psychiatric ward in 1999.

MIND maintains the country's largest collection of psychiatric historical objects from three former mental hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark.

The main purpose of the exhibition is to break down the wall of taboos and prejudices surrounding mental illness.

On the ground floor you can follow historical figures from the early years of Middelfart Hospital's long history.

Every room has its own story.
The head physician's story is about the hierarchical structures at Middelfart mental asylum.

On the top floor, the exhibition takes as its starting point in the dilemmas of today. 

This part of the exhibition holds  personal stories and expressions.
